University of Tennessee: First Equine Podiatry Conference Planned; Dudley Hurst Vet School Farrier Videos



The University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine invites farriers and veterinarians to attend the inaugural Equine Podiatry Conference to be held in Knoxville, Tennessee Saturday, March 8, 2014.



Topics include therapeutic shoeing, common causes of foot lameness, and nutrition and hoof quality. The conference also includes demonstration laboratories.


University vet school farrier Dudley Hurst is featured in two recent videos about his work at the hospital. The university web site details his work on foot-related problems.

Speakers
Raul Bras, DVM, CJF
Raul Bras, DVM, CJF, grew up in Puerto Rico where he showed and bred Paso Fino horses. After earning his veterinary degree from Ross University, he completed an internship at Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky and attended Cornell University Farrier School. Dr. Bras is a Certified Journeyman Farrier and shareholder at Rood and Riddle.

Raul will lecture on "Common Causes of Foot Lameness and Therapeutic Approaches".

Chris Gregory, CJF, FWCF, has been a professional horseshoer since 1987. He opened the Heartland Horseshoeing School in 1995 with his wife and has graduated over 1,000 students from the program. In addition to being a Certified Journeyman Farrier, Gregory earned the Fellowship of the Worshipful Company of Farriers, one of horseshoeing's highest awards in Europe.

Chris will lecture on "Therapeutic Shoeing—Applications and Techniques".



The conference takes place in the Equine Performance and Rehabilitation Center at the UT Veterinary Medical Center located on the UT agricultural campus in Knoxville. Registration and check-in begins at 7:30 a.m., and the conference will conclude at 5:00 p.m.

The registration fee is $45 for farriers and $70 for veterinarians. The fee covers the cost of supplies and lunch. Space is limited.
