Call for Abstracts: 7th International Colloquium on Working Equids

World Horse Welfare is now calling for abstracts from the world’s academic, research and scientific community as well as from working equid welfare practitioners for presentation at the 7th International Colloquium on Working Equids to be held at the Royal Holloway, University of London from July 1-3 2014.

The Colloquium is an essential event for the international audience of working equine practitioners as well as those working in human international development, including veterinarians, technical advisers, project managers, community development practitioners, academics and equine and human welfare NGOs.

The colloquium will feature two days of presentations and breakout group discussions with keynote speakers, poster displays, ‘charity knowledge exchange’ stands and a discussion panel forum. This will be followed by a one day practical workshop.

Since 1991, the International Colloquium on Working Equids has been an important forum for discussing key health, welfare and productivity issues in relation to working horses, donkeys and mules. The colloquium is held every four years and hosted by leading animal welfare organisations, including the Donkey Sanctuary, SPANA, WSPA and the Brooke, the last charity to host the Colloquium held in India in 2010.

The Colloquium is a recognised forum for discussing new research in the field of working equid welfare, and World Horse Welfare would like to encourage contributions from all those involved with working equids or people in developing countries where working equids are relied upon for transportation or agriculture – which are relevant to the following questions:
  1. What role do working equids play in human livelihoods – and how well is this currently recognized?
  2. Does a holistic approach to improving equine welfare produce better outcomes?
  3. What is the role of veterinary science?
All abstracts will be considered by the Colloquium’s Scientific Committee. Those accepted for presentation will be allocated into either oral (15 minute) or poster presentation sessions. The event will take place at the Royal Holloway, University of London, Egham Hill, Egham, Surrey. TW20 0EX. UK. Registration for the event will open on 1st October 2013.

Abstracts should be written in English and be no longer than 300 words (excluding names and affiliations). Each abstract should contain a title, an introduction to the study with aims and objectives, methods, results and interpretation.

If you would like your research to be considered, please submit your abstract by 20th September 2013 using the online submission form http://www.worldhorsewelfare.org/abstracts. Authors will be advised of the status of their submission by 20th January 2014.
